UFC 104 october 24th 2009

At the staplpes center and im not going. im ashamed.

Lyoto Machida OVER Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (no explanation needed although shogun is good enough to push the round into the later rounds and test lyotos reflexes when hes more relaxxed)

Ben Rothwell OVER Cain Velasquez (Velasquez should win by KO. But im betting on Rothwell playing the clinch and ground game and using his size and experience to dominate Cain by Decision. Velasquez is one of the best wrestlers in the division but hes facing rothwell who will have about 3 inches and 25 pounds on him and rothwell has proved that he can deal with a ground game when he beat roy nelson and his black belt jiu jitsu. Cain was able to dominate the larger Kongo, but Kongo sucks.)( not a fight id put too much money on but i like the +220 value on rothwell)

Josh Neer OVER Gleison Tibau (unless Gleison is smart and able to take neer down early and stay on top because neer has proved he cant do much off his back against a good ground game.)

Spencer Fisher OVER Joe Stevenson (fight of the night. Im going with spencer fisher because hes amazing and underrated. He is much stronger and bigger than people give him credit for and even though everything points to stevenson winning- I see it going to Fisher by decision

Anthony Johnson OVER Yoshiyuki Yoshida (Yoshida can pull this off if he is able to clinch and use his incredible advantage in the judo game)

Yushin Okami OVER Chael Sonnen (if i could guarantee a decision in any fight in my life here it is. Split decision. I just dont know who wins. Im going with okami because hes not as prone to submissions and chael hasnt fought since 1942)

Ryan Bader OVER Eric Schafer (Eric Schaefer has been looking really good lately and it wuldnt surprise me if he could pull it out. The only problem is that hes been relying on submissions which means he wants to get in close- the problem is that there lies baders heavy advantage in the wrestling game. Bader has the power and the Inside game- so if red can use his reach to frustrate the less experienced bader then he might have a chance to get on top and work in his game)

tefan Struve OVER Chase Gormley ( hes going to win by height) (yes he will be to tall)

Patrick Barry vs. Antoni Hardonk ( im not choosing this fight. its gonna be a first round KO but its a coin flip and im not betting on it.) (patrick hardonck wins)

Rob Kimmons OVER Jorge Rivera (Rob Kimmons by Submission) ( Rivera is going to need a KO and has the tools to do it. but he wont)

Kyle Kingsbury vs. Razak Al-Hassan ( i know nothing about Razak AL hassan) therefore no guess on this one

UFC 103 belfort/ franklin

There have been better main events. I predict the smallest PPV sales for UFC this year will be on this PPV because of the card and it is the same night as mayweather vs. marquez. (go marquez!) ( my money is on mayweather, but still go marquez)

Vitor Belfort OVER Rich Franklin
Junior dos Santos OVER Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic (i really like cro cop eventhough hes past his prime too bad hes going to get Ko'd here)
Martin Kampmann OVER Paul Daley
Frank Trigg OVER Josh Koscheck
Cole Miller OVER Efrain Escudero (I like efrain but he hasnt proven himself to me yet so im predicting its goodbye undefeated record efrain)
Tyson Griffin OVER Hermes Franca
Vladimir Matyushenko OVER Igor Pokrajac (vladmir refuses to retire, and he wont after he beats igor)
Nik Lentz vs. Rafaello Oliveira (this would be a complete guess)
Ricky Story OVER Brian Foster
Jim Miller OVER Steve Lopez
Drew McFedries OVER Tomasz Drwal (by KO)
Eliot Marshall OVER Jason Brilz ( this should be a fun fight and can go either way)
Rafael dos Anjos vs. Robert Emerson (there are few guarantees in life. This fight having absolutely no impact in the division is one of those guarantees. Me not caring about the outcome is another guarantee.)

UFC fight night 19 9/16

Nate Diaz OVER Melvin Guillard++ Diaz by triangle possibly guillotine. Anyone that fights Melvin Guillard runs the serious risk of getting caught. Melvin is the most powerful and explosive puncher in the division. He has a problem sticking to the gameplan and falls victim to submissions against opponents who are good on the ground so look for diaz to break his losing streak here. I REALLY want to see guillard catch diaz with one of his 200mph hooks.

Gray Maynard OVER Roger Huerta ++ 1.5 years ago id say huerta. But he lost to florian and took off for over a year reportedly to get manicures and facials. Gray Maynard is undefeated and has the cardio and wrestling to wear down huerta who will come in with some ring rust which leads to extra adrenaline which will get him tired even faster. Huerta loked unstoppable until he faced clay guida which has that grinding style that maynard has but maynard will not make the same mistake and get caught with a submission. maynard is one of my 2 dark horses that have a chance against BJ Penn in the division.

Jake Ellenberger OVER Carlos Condit ++ should be a non exciting fight. carlos condit seems to me to be overrated. he has a good record with a good balance of knockouts and submissions and thats cute but Ellenger will win.

Tim Credeur OVER Nate Quarry ++ Fight of the night. Quarry SHOULD win. but I feel an upset here. Quarry is a cocky stand up fighter. Creudeur has the stand up competence and reach to keep quarry at bay until he gets an opening and should be able to pull off a submission.

Steve Cantwell OVER Brian Stann ++ cantwell. So brian stann comes in 6-0 with 6 KOs and then gets KOd by cantwell. then loses again to kryzstof and is awarded a rematch with cantwell. makes no sense but ok lets have cantwell KO him again.

Chris Wilson vs. Mike Pyle
Brock Larson vs. Mike Pierce
Jay Silva vs. CB Dollaway
Sam Stout vs. Phillipe Nover
Jeremy Stephens vs. Justin Buchholz

Jeff Lacy Vs. Roy Jones

Really? i dont know if its worse that im picking this fight or that it is happening.

I dont want to pick either, but there was no money line for Double Loss.

Im going with Jeff Lacy. booo. booooooo. boo.

yes i booed myself.

Strikeforce Carano vs. Cyborg

Id like to start this post by saying that I am going to the event for the sole purpose of watching the Babalu vs. gegard fight and then after gina carano will fight for my love.

Gina Carano vs. Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos - I dont want to but im going with carano- cyborg was heavily criticized for being allowed to fight last time because she came in way heavy. 145 is small for her and shes going to have to cut a lot of weight to make it- this added to it being the first ever 5 round womans fight will cause her to fatigue and im going with a gina carano submission.

Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs. Gegard Mousasi- both of these guys fall in my top 10. If i had to put money on this fight and i had no heart id put it on gegard by KO. Gegard has some of the best hands in the division and babalu has been known to get cocky and try to go toe to toe with people that he shouldnt. Im hoping that babalu puts the pressure on and uses his much better wrestling and creative submissions to use. So i am picking Babalu because i will be at the fight and cant cheer for gegard against babalu.

Gilbert Melendez vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida
Melendez will win. Ishida ended melendez 13 fight win streak melendez will get his revenge here.

Jay Hieron vs. Jesse Taylor
thanks to diaz this fight was made. Hey diaz you want to fight for the belt? no im just going to skip the drug test and let jesse taylor fight heiron. Thanks diaz. asshole. Jay Hieron wins while im in the bathroom puking.

Fabricio Werdum vs. Mike Kyle
Strikeforce really needs Werdum to win this to legitimize their heavyweights that they have lined up for Fedor. So naturally I really want Mike Kyle to win. theres a headline "FEDOR Vs. Mike Kyle" and then strikeforce folds after selling 3 tickets to that show. Lets do it Mike Kyle by KO.

UFC 101 update

based on the weigh ins i am changing my pick in the amir vs johny hendricks fight
I had said that amir would be able to neutralize hendricks' wrestling but since hendricks will likely come in 15+ heavier than amir I am going with hendricks.

** i had also incorrectly had danillo villefort losing to jesse lennox in the picks and that has been fixxed to him winning.

final picks for tonight
B.J. Penn
Anderson Silva
Johny Hendricks
Kendall Grove
Josh Neer
Shane Nelson
Tamdan McCrory
Thales Leites
Matt Riddle
George Sotiropoulos
Danillo Villefort

Marlon Sandro Over Michihiro Omigawa
Matt Jaggers Over Chan Sung Jung
Kazuhiro Nakamu Over Kazuyo Misaki
Eiji Mitsuoka Over Clay French

UFC 101

B.J. Penn OVER Kenny Florian -230
Since his last loss Kenny has 4 submissions and one TKO. The TKO was against lauson who is a natural 145 pounder. he isnt going to submit BJ and eventhough his best chance would be using his reach in the stand up - BJ is too good in the stand up and even better on the ground. Penns last 4 losses have been to much bigger men - florian isnt a much bigger person and bj is virtually unstoppable at 155. I want florian to win but im putting my lunch money on penn.

Anderson Silva OVER Forrest Griffin -350
Silva is too good. Griffin is much better than he was when he got here but nowhere near good enough to win this fight. Anderson is the most disciplined fighter in the UFC- sticks to his gameplan without worrying how boring the fans think it is. Forrest likes to put on a good show and come in striking. The early part of the first half there will be a feeling out process so this might go to the second, but when forrest thinks he feels comfortable he will attack. and regret it.

Amir Sadollah OVER Johny Hendricks -125
Most even matchup on the card. Hendricks comes in as one of the best wrestlers in the division. His striking isnt as good as Sadollah. He likes to throw the fake jabs and go in for the takedown. Sadollah trains out of team quest which is the number 1 wrestling camp in MMA. so he should be prepared to stuff takedowns and use his striking. Sadollah faces the ring rust issue because he has not been in the ring in over a year. leg infection and broken clavicle kept him out of his last 2 fights- hendricks comes in from the WEC after they cancelled their welterweight division. Sadollah has shown a very active guard which will help him if he does get taken down.

Kendall Grove OVER Ricardo Almeida +135
Kendall has only lost in the UFC by knockout. Almeida has 10 wins and none by knockout. Grove has gone back to train at home with BJ Penn since his last loss and it seems to be working. Almeida has not had a good win since 2004. Kendall Grove is one of the few tall people who know how to use his reach for a serious advantage. If almeida tried to play the ground game its going to be tough against a really long 6'6" grove whose got a decent ehough BJJ game.

Josh Neer OVER Kurt Pellegrino -220
This fight has no chance of going to the ground unless someone gets really tired and tries a lame attempt at pulling guard. In the standup Neer has the size and skill advantage. He has shown a great ability to take a hit with a strong chin. thats it. neer wins.

Shane Nelson OVER Aaron Riley
Shane Nelson is coming on the plane with BJ penn and kendall grove who train together in hawaii. Riley trains out of the world famous Jeff Gordon MMA gym in virginia. Who trains there you ask? Aaron Riley. end of list. Gordon has trainers in the facility that are 7 degree black belts in judo and BJJ. The only problem is that they dont have MMA people. Shane Nelson is less experienced but with 15 fights it wont be too great of a disadvantage. Nelson has a more comfortable stand up game and has the cardio to take it the distance like he seems to always want to do. I pick shane nelson in the most unnecessary rematch in UFC history.

TO BE CONTINUED!!!!!!!!!

Tamdan McCrory OVER John Howard
Thales Leites OVER Alessio Sakara -350 (UFC brings back sakara. why?)

awesome

I can not believe how awesome Dream 9 was. And it was awesome because of one thing. canseco. the man comes out to a video of himself hitting a homerun and then him hitting a homerun in RBI baseball. awesome. he met his opponent for the first time the day before and told the press he was scared. his cornerman was his girlfriend - after frank trigg turned him down. he thought the fight was 3 minutes and didnt find out until less than 24 hours before that it was scheduled for 15 minutes. then he gets in the ring and runs more than he did when he stole 40 bases. landing the occasional jumping front kick to the giants knee.
besides that it was a very good show- except for they need to stop letting bob sapp fight. hes complete garbage. IM glad he lost and im even more glad who he lost to. minowa. the man has 80 fights and is like 180 pounds fighting 330 pounders.
I really was impressed by joe warren who i believe is going to be a huge name in the sport in a very short time. eventhough it was close and i can see maybe some people thinking he lost the fight- the fact that he got a decision over kid yamamoto in his second fight lets you know this kid is gonna be good.

5/26 Dream 9

Dream picks

not enough time to explain picks because lines are closing soon

HULK TOURNY
minowa over Sapp( i will never predict sapp to win a fight)
Choi over canseco ( i love the japanese for their desire to watch these things)
Sokoudjou over Nortje (nortje you funny 7 foot tall fat guy)
Mousasi over mark hunt (Mousasi deserves a shot in the UFC, the ufcs 185 pound division could really use him.)

LIGHTWEIGHT TOURNY
JZ calvacante over Kawajiri ( fight of the night, really like kawajiri but not here)
Abel Cullum over Hideo Tokoro (abel is the least visually threatening man in mma)
Yoshiro Maeda over Hiroyuki Takaya (takaye only loses when he fights a decent fighter
Bibiano Fernandes over Masakazu Imanari (bibiano best 4-2 fighter in mma)
Norifumi "KID" Yamamoto over Joe Warren (this should be quick)

Non Tourny fight
Jason "Mayhem" Miller over Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza ( this fight is the reason im waking up in 3 hours to watch this show- stupid oversees 4am fights, i hope the first 2 fights are this and JZ/Kawajiri so i could go back to bed and watch the rest later)

after we make money on this lets go celbrate with some frosted flakes - its gonna be 4am damn it.

more may 30th

***** Nikolai Valuev vs. Ruslan Chagaev, rematch, 12 rounds, for Valuev's WBA heavyweight title
chagaev -120, valuev -110

Finally. Ive been waiting to put money on this since i watched their first fight. sure Chagaev gives about 4 feet to the russian but seriously does it matter? as long as valueve doesnt bring the same refs he brought to the holyfield fight this should be a wrap up for chagaev. -120? thats mutual fund money. Y is valuev given credit, his last decent fight was john ruiz. and i like the new ruiz. hello, my name is valuev, i am going to stand in the center and throw 12 jabs at you. i will leave my midsection more open than a walmart supercenter. he is 50 - 1. forget water torture, lets get a video with those 51 fights and loop it at prison camps everywhere. his one loss is to the uzbekistan ron jeremy himself Ruslan Chagaev. sure hes fat and short but i love him and im betting with my heart and head. I will double the money i made in the lyoto/evans fight on this fight here.

Chagaev by decision. the judges table is filled by Pierluigi Poppi, Guillermo Perez Pineda, Mikael Hook, or Ove Ovensen. bet on the over 10.5 for -400 if you want to make extra money to get the fries with your combo.
+++++++POST REVIEW+++++++++++

chagaev over valuev

MAY 30 fights

here are some good betting fights

***** Andre Berto vs. Juan Urango, 12 rounds, for Berto's WBC welterweight title

Urango is paying +250 Berto is selling at -350

heres a fight of short stalky guys. urango is trying to prove himself in the division that berto is already respected in. bertos only loss is to ricky hatton. I really want urango to win because im not a fan of bertos style but i dont see it happening. havent seen enough of urango to convince me that hes ready for this fight. he does knockout 80% of his opponents though but considering i recognized 3 of the 24 wins im not really convinced. I want him to win but im not giving him the upset on this one.

Urango on this one.

*****Alfredo Angulo vs. Kermit Cintron, 12 rounds, WBC junior middleweight eliminator
Angulo -350, kermit +250

now these odds i just dont understand. Cintron is not a +250 to anyone not named Paul Williams or Vernon Forrest. Im going to get some money on this one before the lines drop. Vegas must know something about Angulo that I dont. His highest ranked opponent was 35th in the division and Kermit is a top 10 fighter whose only 2 losses are to antonio "plaster" margarito. My only problem with kermit is that he looks like he never looks at his opponent- hes got that looking down and away look thing going on when the fighters get close together. I thought Kermit was going too be favored here and i was shocked at +250. "el perro" angulo is a knockout guy mostly because of his woork rate than his power. Im not sold on his KO power because his KOs seem to be strings of punches put together as opposed to a one punch power KO. I might lose the farm on this one and learn something new but my boxing instincts are with the puerto rican over the mexican.
At +250 you dont have to put much, maybe your lunch money or even dinner money if you have a big date coming up so when you get paid you can splurge for the nicer bottle of wine.
If you want to hedge your bet you can find a prop bet and bet on Angulo by KO but im not insuring my bet. Im riding the +250 straight up.

++++++++++++++POST UPDATE++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

berto over urango
cintron over angulo

we will celebrate these bets with some burgers and watermelon

First round of predictions

*****Daisuke Naito vs. Xiong Zhao Zhong, 12 rounds, for Naito's WBC flyweight title

Really? if any bookey is taking money on this fight please call me so i can put my life savings on Daisuke. Here is a fight where the WBC should be fined for allowing this fight to go on. Xiong is chinas #1 ranked flyweight. after this fight china will stop their government funded flyweight boxing gyms.

*****Denkaosan Kaowichit vs. Hiroyuki Hisataka, 12 rounds, for Kaowichit's WBA flyweight title

If Denkaosan loses this fight i will amputate my legs so i can be a flyweight and i will eventually win the belt. If you find anyone who is taking odds on this fight feel free to put your grandmas social security checks on it.

****** Anthony Mundine vs. Daniel Geale, 12 rounds, middleweights
First awesome fight i will review. Mundine is currently -350 and Geale is +250.

All of Mundines losses were in Super Middleweight championship fights. Geale is undefeated but doesnt seem to have any real fights but he has stepped up his competition and been very impressive his last 3 fights so maybe he will defend his undefeated record ifhes able to get inside on anthony mundine who likes to throw from the outside. "the man" mundine, besides having one of my favorite nicknames has decided to drop in wieght class late in his career. probably because there is no more money in his current or heavier weight classes. maybe he wants pavlik? he wont get there. I am going to go with instincts on this one and predict UPSET! at +250 the money is too good to pass up. Im gonna say risk tomorrows lunch money on this fight and you should win enough to go from wendys to olive garden. Reason is he keeps his hands low and has a cocky fighting style where Geale seems to be sticking to his fundamentals and stays well protected while looking to work his way in for body shots combine that with 34 year old having to cut extra weight and you spell upset. Its his first real test so I might learn something about him but i want olive garden. So if you are in australia buy tickets to this fight and watch your 2 best middle/super middleweights fight for the kangaroo krown.

*****Silence Mabuza vs. Yonnhy Perez, 12 rounds, IBF bantamweight eliminator
Its a bantamwieght eliminator AKA Yonnhy Perez's first loss. Silence has 2 losses: rafael marquez and rafael marquez. rafael marquez is who i consider the 6th best P4P fighter so i have no problem with his losses, maybe how he lost though. Either way Yonnhys last 3 opponents have a comined 60 losses. Silence's have 7 losses. Silence is a finisher with 75% of his fights being KOs. Dont expect that to change. I just dont think Africa could find anyone else to challenge Silence so they threw perez at him. Put your weekend spending cash on this one and you can roll into the club in the VIP and afford to stay there until your one bottle runs out. but it beats waiting in line.

FIGHT PREDICTIONS

the daily awesome is now a Sport Prediction site that will focus on Boxing and MMA. after i put all my life's savings on lyoto machida because of his extreme -200 bargain against rashad evans i figure i will now keep track of my predictions.
